What are the Benefits of Chiropractic?
In order to serve the community well Chiropratic professionals need
to educate the public regarding the nature of Chiropractic care. This
website has been prepared to serve that purpose. During the last one
hundred years, Chiropractic science has grown to major stature among
the healing arts, reaching millions of people. It is the fastest
growing health profession in the world.
In the field of Chiropractic, the pathway to good health is the spine.
The spine houses and protects the spinal cord, through which nerve
fibers pass from the brain to the rest of the body. Every
organ, tissue, and cell is controlled by nerve impulses traveling
from the brain to all parts of the body. Nerves transmit
sensations to the brain; including sight, hearing, taste, smell and
touch. The nervous system controls all other systems of the body including
the respiratory, circulatory, glandular, digestive, eliminative, and
reproductive systems. Nerves help maintain balance and regulate body
temperature. Nerves make movement possible.
The spinal cord is the switchboard through which the nerve impulses
travel. The nerves leave the spinal cord through openings between
the moveable vertebrae. Misalignment of the vertebrae can interfere
with the normal functioning of these nerves. Misalignments can be
caused by accidents, injuries, falls, bad posture, poor sleeping habits,
gravity, stress, and even in the birth process, for both mother and
child. This misalignment is called a “subluxation.” Subluxations
can cause pain as well as malfunctions of the nervous system that
alter posture, range of motion, and strength. If subluxations are
left undetected or uncorrected, spinal degeneration occurs much more
rapidly.
The modern Chiropractor works both directly and indirectly with the
nervous system. The objective of Chiropractic care is to detect subluxations,
and to correct them. Detection is done through a thorough consultation,
a clinical examination, and x-rays in which the degree of spinal misalignment
is measured. Through gentle, specific adjustments of the vertebrae,
the nervous system is freed from interference, allowing the body to
heal and reach optimal health naturally. |
